I was listening to the best talk radio station on the market this morning, News Talk 1130 WISN. One of the hosts brought up Chewbacca Mom and the amount of compensation she has received after her video went viral. However, she touched on something I hadn't heard yet. Apparently the only reason Chewbacca Mom is now famous is because of white privilege. I shit you not. So I had to find out if this was really being alleged or not. One Google search and 15 seconds of my time and there it was in black and white (no pun intended) on MSN. Here's the link.
I don't even know where to begin with this steaming pile of poo. A person experiences something extraordinary in their lives after doing something silly. Granted I think $420,000 is a little excessive but if I were in her shoes, I wouldn't turn any of it down especially the college scholarships. But to say she only received the money because she is white, is bigoted and intellectually dishonest. The commenters cited in the MSN article stink of racism, jealousy and hate.
"Black social media use is not inherently different than that of white or
Hispanic or Asian or other social media use—it generates content that
benefits marketers and the platforms themselves. What is different, however, is the degree to which these users get credit for their creations."
Citation needed. Where are you getting your data from? How do you know that black content creators are or are not getting the credit they deserve? Am I expected to blindly accept your anecdotal evidence because reasons?
"This singular vision of black people online can often come off as gawking, such as /r/BlackPeopleTwitter,
a subreddit that collects jokes and moments online that often create
humor at the expense of the people in them. Laughing at people online
isn’t unusual in itself, but the expressed mission of the forum to limit
its scope to black people is deeply troubling. It’s also not helpful
that Reddit is largely white and has struggled to remove white nationalists and other hate groups from its ranks."
Not a credible source. So your source material that proves Reddit is mostly white is an online Reddit survey that asked people what their race was? Does no one else have an issue with this? Holy shit, let's ask anonymous people on the Internet stuff about themselves with no possible way of verifying the data is accurate.
"The demand for content from black creators online is unchallenged, but
the inequality apparent in the rewards companies and the media heap on
black users is clearly one-sided."
Again citation needed.
I'm done. I'm going to spend some time looking for some hot chicks to post later.
